Black Aces: Year Three – The YCBHL Era Begins

The YCBHL is the premier league for men’s ball hockey in Toronto and the perfect place to resurrect a franchise. After playing parts of two seasons playing on other teams, Alex Graham-Mifsud decided it was time to bring back the Aces. Asking Ryan Stasyshyn first to preserve the teams heritage the team also branched off and signed a variety of players from the Riverdale area (Full roster details are available on other sites). Shaking off early rust and inexperience the Aces made the playoffs in a three-way tie for first. Playing the team’s most hated rival (The Rangers) in the first round made for a great matchup. with the Aces coming out on top in a, fight filled, two game series. The win gave the Aces their first taste of finals hockey. Unfortunately the team was without three key players for the final two games and the Aces lost to the East York Extreme.

Black Aces: Year Two – Sophomore Slump

Just under a year after the teams first season Alex Graham-Mifsud had moved to Sarnia, Ontario to study sports management and work with the Sarnia Sting of the OHL.  Once again seeing an opportunity to make a ball hockey team Alex registered for the Lambton College Ball Hockey League. With his former teammates still in Toronto he needed to recruit new players. Mark Perrin, Gregg Cooke, Wade Walker and Jason Smith were added to the Black aces roster. While the season had some exciting moments and some comeback wins in the end the Aces lost in the quarter-finals in overtime 5-4.

Black Aces: Year One

In the summer of 2005 Riverdale Collegiate was about to start the 2nd Annual Ball Hockey Challenge. Deciding to seize the opportunity to create his own team Alex Graham-Mifsud started a squad that would soon be known to all as The Black Aces. The team was built with the idea of having solid but underrated players that could fight and claw their way to the championship. The roster featured Griffin Thompson, Allan Cheng, Mat Baldwin, current assistant captain Ryan Stasyshyn and, of course, Alex Graham-Mifsud. The team fought their way to the semi-finals only to lose when Mat Baldwin unexpectedly quit the team leaving the Aces without a goalie. Both Stasyshyn and Cheng did all they could manning the pipes but without their starting goalie the team lost a heartbreaker 8-6.
